International Education Week 2023
Sustainability & Environmental Justice
For International Education Week 2023 (IEW), where we are exploring the theme of Sustainability & Environmental Justice to foster reflections about climate change, environmental equity, and sustainable futures, locally and globally. We join campuses nationwide through IEW, a joint national initiative of the Department of State and the Department of Education, to think more deeply about internationalization across U.S. Campuses. At Tulane, we are using IEW to cultivate spaces for global awareness across borders, fostering an inclusive international community, and facilitating impactful global learning and engagement while also aligning with our institutional mission of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The Office of Academic Affairs and Provost and the Office of International Affairs (Tulane Global) are spearheading this year’s International Education Week, alongside its key partners, the Office of International Students and Scholars, NTC Center for Global Education, and 15+ Schools and Units across campus.
Keynote Speaker: Olga Morales-Pate
Olga Morales-Pate, an accomplished leader in environmental justice and rural community development issues, is the CEO of the Rural Community Assistance Partnership (RCAP). RCAP is a national non-profit network providing opportunity, assistance, and practical guidance to small communities in all fifty states, U.S. territories, and tribal lands to ensure access to safe drinking water, sanitary wastewater disposal, and economic prosperity for all rural America. At Tulane, we are eager to learn more about how the RCAP works with rural and often overlooked communities -including the many challenges- to elevate rural voices and build local capacity/sustainability to improve the quality of life by having access to water. Olga’s work around water inevitably resonates with our local community in New Orleans, the Mississippi, and the Gulf as a living example of how water and climate change have shaped and will continue to shape every fiber of our histor(ies), locally and globally.
